How to Use the Web Site

Navigation

Top Menu Bar: The top menu bar at the top of each web page provides links to all the main sections of this characterization product. There are five (5) main sections: Introduction; Ecosystem Description; Human Dimension; Project Summaries; and Spatial Data. Each of these sections can be accessed from any page within the product. Selecting any one of these sections will take you to the home page of that section.

Sidebar Menu: Each of the five (5) main sections is divided into subsections which appear on the left-hand side of your screen in the blue sidebar menu. Subsections available in this product may be further divided and can be accessed by selecting the subsection. To locate the page that is currently open, view the sidebar menu and find the subsection colored orange.

Individual Pages: To make navigation within individual pages easier, a number of pages within this product contain a menu of topics at the top. These menus provide a list of all topics within that page. Selecting a topic will take you directly to the the text for that topic. At the end of every topic there are "Back to Top" links that will take you back to the original menu.

Images

Some images within this product can be enlarged by selecting either the image itself or a text link associated with the image. If your browser allows JavaScript, a pop-up image will appear in a smaller separate window, which can be closed after viewing the image. If your browser does not allow for JavaScript, selecting the image will bring up the image in a window the same size as your current browser window and you will need to close that window to resume reading the page.

Please note: If you do not close the pop-up window after viewing an image, and you select another image, the new image will appear in the same pop-up window as the first image.

Software Installation and Requirements

Web Browser: Most of the information contained in this product is accessible through a standard web-browser. Many computer operating systems now include some type of web browsing software. This Web site is only supported by Microsoft Internet Explorer® 4.0 or higher or Netscape® 4.7 or higher. If you are viewing this product using an older version of Explorer or Netscape, you will still be able to navigate through the product, but the look of the pages will be slightly different. To learn how to navigate through this product, please see the section on Navigation above.

If your computer does not have Adobe Acrobat, you can download a free version at Adobe's web page at: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readermain.html. Once you have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed, you can view the PDF file.

Macromedia Flash®: This product contains files that require the Macromedia Flash Player to view. The Macromedia Flash Player is distributed at no cost by Macromedia, Inc. and is shipped with many computers. If your computer does not have the Flash Player, you can download a free version at Macromedia's web page at: http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflash. Once you have the Macromedia Flash Player installed, you can view the Flash files.
